Facts
Parzaan Dastur is an Indian actor best known for his role as the silent Sikh kid in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and as the cute kid in the Dhara Jalebi advertisement (1995).
Born on November 2, 1991, Parzaan hails from a Parsi family. He was born to Tehmton Dastur and Maharukh Dastur in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Parzaan has a younger brother, Rushaad Dastur, who is married to Simone Mody. 345
His mother, Maharukh Dastur, retired as a Chief Manager at ICICI Bank and is also an artist specializing in paintings, paper mosaics, and collages. 67
His brother, Rushaad Dastur works as a Senior Manager – Business Development at Astaguru Auction House, a premium auction house for art, antiques, and luxury items. 8
Parzaan completed his early schooling at St. Mary’s School in Mumbai. He finished his Class 12 in Commerce at H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, in 2009. He pursued a Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) in 2012 and a Master of Commerce (MCom) in 2014, both from H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. 9
At the age of 3 or 4, Parzaan began attending his aunt’s speech and drama classes. When a production house sought young children for an advertisement, his aunt sent his name along with other students. The production house liked his work and kept him in mind for future projects. 10
The turning point in his career came with a 1995 TVC for Dhara cooking oil. In the ad, he played a young child who, after being scolded, runs away from home but returns upon learning that his mother is making hot jalebis. The Dhara Jalebi ad was a major success and significantly boosted his popularity. He went on to feature in several ads for brands like Pepsodent and Amul Cheese.
Parzaan made his Bollywood debut at age 7 with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), where he played a cute, silent Sikh boy who counted stars on his fingertips. His dialogue, “Tussi Jaa Rahe Ho, Tussi Na Jao”, became widely popular. 11
He then appeared in films like Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000), Mohabbatein (2000), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2001).
He played the role of Karisma Kapoor’s son in Zubeidaa (2001) and lent his voice to the animated character Hum in Saif Ali Khan–Rani Mukerji starrer Hum Tum (2004). 12
Dastur played the role of Naseeruddin Shah and Sarika’s son in Parzania (2007), written and directed by Rahul Dholakia. 12
He is a proficient Pianist and has been learning piano since the age of just 7. 13
He also auditioned for roles in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) and Champion (2000), but the roles went to others. 14
Piyush Jha loved his performance in Parzania and cast him in the 2009 film Sikandar. In this film, Parzaan played a 14-year-old named Sikandar Raza, whose life changes after finding a gun on his way to school. 12
His parents were firm about prioritizing education, so he only worked on films during vacations, declining many offers. 15
Parzaan has also worked as an assistant director on films like Student of the Year (2012), Gori Tere Pyaar Mein! (2013), and Fitoor (2016). 14
He has narrated three audiobooks: As Long As I Love You by Nikhil Mahajan, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. 16
In 2017, he co-founded Ten Colour Productions with his friend Nitesh V. Ranglani. Their first project was a 6-minute short film, Pocket Mummy, which premiered on YouTube on May 13, 2017, and has garnered over 3 million views. 17 At Ten Colour Productions (TCP), they have produced TVCs, short films, documentaries, and music videos. Their clients include Behrouz Biryani, Sugar Cosmetics, Ovenstory Pizza, Mirae Asset Mutual Fund, SBI Mutual Fund, Bosch Refrigerator, Urban Company, Tata Communications, Times of India, Maruti Suzuki, and Great White Electricals. 18
Parzaan Dastur and Delna Shroff knew each other since 2007 and began dating in 2017. The duo got engaged in a traditional Parsi engagement ceremony in Mumbai on 4th January 2021 and tied the knot on 13th February 2021. 19202122
